Instagram Video Controls
Add familiar seek, volume, fullscreen, and picture-in-picture controls to Instagram videos, with saved playback preferences and mouse-wheel shortcuts.
Instagram Video Controls adds familiar HTML5-style controls to Instagram videos, remembers volume and playback speed, and adds mouse-wheel shortcuts. It is a complete rewrite of an earlier extension; telemetry and uninstall analytics were removed.
Video controls
Use the video seek bar to move through a clip, the volume slider to adjust sound, and the fullscreen or picture-in-picture controls when available. Volume and playback speed preferences are remembered across tabs and sessions.
Keyboard and mouse shortcuts
| Gesture | Result |
|---|---|
Ctrl + mouse wheel over a video |
Change playback speed by 0.25× per step. |
| Hold the right mouse button and use the wheel over a video | Change volume by 0.1 per step. |
Right-clicking without scrolling continues to open the normal context menu. The context menu is suppressed only when you scroll while holding the right mouse button.

Permissions and privacy
The extension uses storage to remember settings such as volume and speed. It works with Instagram video elements and does not use telemetry or uninstall analytics. Firefox’s manifest declares no data collection.
Troubleshooting
- Controls are missing: reload Instagram after installing and check that the video has finished loading.
- A shortcut does nothing: place the pointer over the video; the shortcuts are scoped to a video.
- Context menu is suppressed: release the right mouse button or stop scrolling; an ordinary right-click is preserved.
